Transport Information Service - NHS
The Transport Information Service provides a central contact number for patients across Teesside and Hartlepool, who can’t get to a hospital or clinic appointment by public transport or car and need transport from Patient Transport Services.
Not all patients are eligible for this help. The Transport Information Service will assess any patient who contacts the service to ensure they are eligible for NHS transport. They will also assess their level of mobility so that the right kind of transport is provided. Patients who are eligible, and require non-emergency transport, will be booked transport so they can get to their appointment.
Eligibility is based on a medical need, not cost. Patients who do not meet the eligibility criteria will be signposted to other methods of transport and be given information about getting help with the cost.
The Transport Information Service operates from 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
North East Ambulance Service requests 48 hours notice for transport bookings. Patients should endeavour to contact Transport Information Service at least 48 hours before their appointment.
