Matrix Neurological - Family Support Service

MATRIX Neurological is a lived-experience led registered charity funded by the mother of a brain injured young person. Bringing a brain injured child home from hospital, and dealing with the effects of a brain injury, is extremely stressful for parents and requires them being able to adapt to what may be a life changing event. Increased pressures at home and difficulties they face on a daily basis, have significant impact on their health and well being.
Through information and emotional support, at any time post brain injury, we help families to understand what has happened, and the effects on the brain injured child. We ensure parents are aware of their rights as a carer and offer a navigation service to the appropriate services they need. We try to alleviate some of the family pressures and improve their quality of life.
Children and young people also need support to enable them to have a good recovery and to help regain any lost skills and abilities. This is important because improvements can continue for many years post brain injury as the brain continues to adapt to the changes that have occurred. Families including siblings need to know what they can do to help with that ongoing recovery journey and be supported and empowered to help ensure their children make the best possible recovery.
