National Charity - Action for Blind People

Action for Blind People is a national charity founded in 1857. They work with blind and partially sighted people to enable them to transform their lives. Every year they provide direct support to more than 24,000 visually impaired people.

Their mission is to inspire change and create opportunities to enable blind and partially sighted people to have equal voice and equal choice.

From their Middlesbrough branch Action for Blind People offer information, advice and practical support to blind and partially sighted people of any age, who experience barriers in accessing mainstream services independently.

They offer specialist advice and information at the point of diagnosis in hospital eye clinics for people newly diagnosed with a permanent and/or debilitating sight condition.

Local teams provide one-to-one support with housing related issues; advice on aids and equipment; seeking employment and help to stay in work; identifying assistive technology solutions to meet individual needs; support to claim appropriate welfare benefits and source grant funding and tailored support for children and young people.
