Building Bloxs Tees Valley Cic -courses and workshops for parent/carers of children with additional needs.
Building Bloxs Tees Valley CIC (Facebook Buildingbloxs Tees valley CIC) is based in Newtown Resource Centre Stockton and offers training, workshops and support networking for parents/carers of children with any additional needs.
We believe we have a programme that no one else is offering and that will benefit our families across Stockton during this challenging time of huge waiting lists and delays for diagnosis of conditions such as autism.
Our carefully devised programme covers basic areas of support for the family from laying the foundations of understanding your child’s behaviour to practical strategies like using visual resources, implementing the 5-point scale and emotional understanding.
Alongside these we also have sessions on understanding additional needs and empowering parents and relationship building. We have partnerships with Insight healthcare regarding self-referrals for talking therapies and will be introducing a programme of self-care for parents/carers.
We are taking a holistic view with our service and want to bring everything together- we have a partnership with a mental health team to self-refer, we intend to plan self-care and relaxation sessions and we will sign post into other services. We have met with a lot of services/ formed partnerships so that we can personally link people and offer to attend with people initially to break down barriers and make services more accessible.
Our courses complement each other, and the goal is that at the end you will have a parent who is confident, empowered and supported with a dedicated team around them to get the best for their individual family’s needs. So many families are just firefighting where as we pull together processes and strategies to assist with all aspects of parenting a child with additional needs.
These courses can be done independently but they all link together, we feel that the whole programme has huge benefits. (part of the programme is called U.B.E.R- as we feel it’s a journey)
Our services are aimed at the newer parents coming through without specific diagnosis to enable early intervention, but it is open to anyone- it depends on what level of interaction and support the family have received and what part of the journey they are on.
