Care in a children's home is one of a number of options available to children and young people in Stockton who cannot be cared for within their own families. Those children and young people who need to be cared for in a children's home are likely to have emotional and behavioural difficulties and or additional and complex needs.
Living in a children's home provides stability, warmth, nurturing and the opportunity for children and young people to grow and develop in their health, education, social and emotional wellbeing.
The local authority has it's own in house provision across the borough and provides placement in 5 homes for up to 20 children and young people at any one time.
Where a place is not available or not appropriate for a young person from within the local authorities own provision, the Resource Team will source an appropriate placement from it's partner agency, the private or the voluntary sector for that young person.
Placements are only made after careful matching and robust placement planning. The length of time a young person is cared for in a residential children's home will differ and is dependent on the young persons Looked After Care Plan which is reviewed every 6 months by an Independent Reviewing Officer.
