Neuro Key - Tees Valley, Durham and North Yorkshire Neurological Alliance
Neuro Key is an alliance delivering support for anyone with or caring for someone with a neurological condition, impairment, neurodiversity or disability. <SEND>
As a pan-neuro, disabled people's organisation we have 3 strands of work:
1. Advocacy - welfare benefits appeals/campaigning on neuro-disability /employment difficulties /access to statutory education for neurodiverse young people
2. Education - raising awareness of neurodiversity in schools, distributing our Iceberg graphic as a learning tool
3. Research - promoting lived experience as a learning resource through seminars, participants in research and peer mentorship
Underpinning these strands are harnessing pan-neuro + caregiver lived experiences as learning tools through our Open Door publications, enabling participation in consultations, surveys and polls such as our contribution to NICE guidelines, delivering specific projects to gather real time data such as TEWV Resilience Fund now delivering for Stockton, enabling adult peer support mechanisms for neurodiverse people, Tees-wide catchment but includes parent carers to support and share information to improve coping skills.
Our Open Door series of learning resources are based on narratives of lived experience now used at the Virtual School Fostering and Adoption Service, Mental health network for the Integrated Care System, VONNE Neuro sub-group and the Criminal Justice network out of Bristol University.
A key issue for professional understanding is that Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is twice the prevalence of Autism.
